Guitar arrivals 9/9/09
The Eastmans did arrive today. The first lefty archback, an AJ815L; My first lefty dread, an AC420L; another AC512; another AR810CE; another MD515; and a T185MX which is a 15" thinline instead of 16" like the others I've got. A good day in the lefty Eastman world!
I also received a Huss & Dalton TD-M with Adirondack top. I've not had an opportunity to play ANY of these instruments yet (this is when building the shop, which I love doing, really sucks).
We worked on the shop more today, though I was not as much help to Lee as I would have liked. Lots of phone calls (though yesterday had to rate as one of my busiest phone days ever) and figuring materials for the next couple of phases of construction. We should get the framing of the additional 300 sq ft done tomorrow and friday have it sheeted and ready for radiant barrier and siding. I have not decided what to do on the building next week. I have a bunch more guitars to get on the site and that is more important than the shop.
Where do the days go? How can so many pass so quickly? I better get you caught up on what is going on.
First, what has come in? Another Duesenberg Starplayer, maybe the last one for a while (no one can tell me exactly when I might get another, and I waited 1 1/2 years for the 4 I've recently received). A Tom Anderson Cobra in Jacks Blue Burst came in today. I'll get photos soon.
I have 5 Eastman instruments coming tomorrow. My first lefty archback, a 400 series flattop, an AR810CE, and I don't remember the other 2. One is a mandolin I think. I'll know tomorrow!
My 24 guitar order from Peerless is almost ready to ship. I hope to have them at the end of the month. Wait until you see these guitars. Wait until you see how they are priced.
I spoke to Rickenbacker again (I'm the eternal optimist!). The last time we spoke was 1/09 and they told me 2 more years before leftys will be made. I made a "I'm still wanting to order a bunch of leftys" call anyway. They were courteous as always and actually told me to come see them at NAMM in January. They were not quite as certain about no leftys for 2 years in this conversation. So, maybe there is hope.
We are back to working on the shop this week (sorry if I missed any of your calls). I've decided to enclose another 300 square feet that I already had under roof. I was going to have a couple of covered parking spaces, but I see myself needing more space in the near future. I'm not going to finish the space, just enclose it. This will of course slow me down a bit on getting into the shop, but I'll be better served later on by doing it. I picked up another 500 square feet of oak for the floor on Monday. I think that will give me enough with what I already had. I'm going to do some experimenting with aniline dyes. I want some colors that don't exist in natural woods.
With what I want to do with the floors, I may be months longer working on the shop than I planned. I love doing patterns in the floors in hardwood. It is almost a dying art. When I went to buy the oak, the warehouse that used to be filled with stacks of unfinished wood ready to be installed and sanded is now filled to the rafters with prefinished glue down flooring. I bought all the unfinished they had and they were glad to be rid of it.
Correction on the PRS, it is a 2004 9/3/09
So a past customer calls me up today and buys the Martin SPOOOC-16R. We somehow start talking about PRS (he has a half dozen or so) and I mention the Platinum PRS. He describes the guitar to me and says he is the original owner and special ordered the guitar in 2003 (it took a year to come in). It was not loaded with EMGs. These were added by the next owner who wanted to have the same guitar as Incubus. He told me that he ordered 2 of the Platinum at the time and these are the only Platinum leftys ever made. The lefty world is a tight circle!
I've received 3 emails from those more knowledgeable about PRS than me (that encompasses a lot of people) saying this is likely (or certainly) a 2004. Thank you all for your time and expertise. I love this job.
1994 PRS Custom 22 w/Birds Platinum 9/2/09
Now this is a beautiful PRS. I'm so used to seeing this guitar with the flame maple top. I did not think a painted PRS would be as nice. I was wrong. I like it better.

Always wanted to try one of these. Too cool. That classic whirring sound with those sympathetic strings. Fun stuff!
1995 Heritage 150CM Monster 9/2/09
This is different! A highly modified Heritage 150CM. EMG pickups, Sperzel locking tuners (same as on the Suhrs), and knurled metal knobs and switch. And a highly original blue color. Custom ordered from the Heritage factory. I think this is a Monster Metal guitar. Anyone recognize the bridge? Unfamiliar to me.
